How Did the Bracket Simulators do?

For the 2021 tournament, we added two new simulator variants. For 2023, 2022, and 2021, we sampled one million brackets from each of the variants. The best scores from each variant were:

2023 Tournament:

1560 from the Final Four Variant,
1540 from the Elite Eight Variant,
1560 from the default Power Model

To put these scores in perspective, the best score from the 2023 ESPN Tournament Challenge was 1600 out of 20.1 million brackets submitted, and the bottom of the ESPN leaderboard (top 100) scored 1460.

2022 Tournament:

1660 from the Final Four Variant,
1620 from the Elite Eight Variant,
1620 from the default Power Model

To put these scores in perspective, the best score from the 2022 ESPN Tournament Challenge was 1710 out of 17.3 million brackets submitted, and the bottom of the ESPN leaderboard (top 100) scored 1590.

2021 Tournament:

1730 from the Final Four Variant,
1680 from the Elite Eight Variant,
1770 from the default Power Model

To put these scores in perspective, the best score from the 2021 ESPN Tournament Challenge was 1690 out of 16.2 million brackets submitted, and the bottom of the ESPN leaderboard (top 100) scored 1590.
